You made it through the first week! That’s pretty impressive, in our books. And while we’re sure you have quite a bit of homework this weekend (Brothers Karamazov, anyone?), we think you deserve some nice, relaxing R & R. Here’s what’s going on in all things “Entertainment” this weekend.
Theatre
While at Northwestern, things can get a bit…wild. Join WAVE Productions as they lead you through the story (and around campus) Where the Wild Things Are, a tale of Max, a young boy who travels to an island filled with “Wild Things.”
This iteration of the classic children’s book is really told with college students in mind, according to co-director Cammy Harris, Communication sophomore. “Our production deals a lot with what it means to leave home, what it means to be changed by a new and exciting place and what it means to reconcile that with the person that you were before you left,” she said.
The promenade will begin this Friday, September 23, at 8 p.m. outside of Norbucks. The following three shows will take place at 11 p.m. that night, and 8 and 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 24. Admission is free. Bring walking clothes.
Movies
If you think week 1 is hard, just wait until we get to week 4. You may be wondering how you’re going to make it through. Well, one motto comes to mind: just keep swimming.
At 7 and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24, A&O Films will be presenting Finding Dory in the McCormick Auditorium. Best part? It’s absolutely free!
Or, if you want to watch something new (or, you don’t think Finding Dory is worth a second viewing, there are three new movies coming to Cinemark this weekend. Don’t forget about the Wildcard discount!
The Magnificent Seven
A remake of the classic 1960 Steve McQueen film (which was a remake of Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai from 1954). Your film professors are sure to talk about this one.
Storks
Although it is indeed a kids movie, this animated film was directed by Nicholas Stoller (of Neighbors fame), so while it might not be a Sausage Party, it may prove to be entertaining for adults, too.
The Dressmaker
If you’re feeling a bit artsy this week, Kate Winslet is super Australian in this film.
Queen of Katwe
You didn’t spend your childhood playing chess, too?
Other Events
Finally, if you feel like venturing into Chicago, Chance the Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring Day will be at U.S. Cellular Field on Saturday, September 24. Featured performers include Skrillex, Lil Wayne, Alicia Keys, John Legend and 2 Chainz.
