Northwestern, Netflix and "Nervous Breakdown"
By

Welcome to the second week! This isn’t syllabus-land anymore. If you’re looking to chill out after a long week (and potentially weekend) of work, this is the place. Welcome to your weekend guide to entertainment.

    Theatre

Based on the black comedy of the same name, "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" features an ensemble of 20th century women whose experiences with men lead to a crazy 48 hours.

Presented by Arts Alliance, performances are free and take place in the Shanley Pavilion on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m, as well as Friday at 11 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

Or, if you’re feeling lucky, "Hamilton" in Chicago opened this past week. If you don’t have tickets already, you probably won’t get them for a reasonable price. However, 44 seats will be held for each performance for the digital lottery. You can apply online, and pay $10 for your ticket if you win. Good luck and find more information here

    Movies

Want to see an advanced screening of something that’s been getting lots of hype (well, in the indie scene at least)? The Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize Winner (and Palme d’Or nominee) "American Honey" is playing (for FREE) in the McCormick Auditorium on Saturday, October 1 at 7p.m. The screening is presented by A&O Films, NUWFA and URSA, and I will take it as a personal insult if you don’t go, considering how long I’ve been waiting to see this movie (and can’t go!)

Or, if the first paycheck just hit and you want to #TreatYourself, there’s a plethora of new movies coming to Cinemark this weekend.

"Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children"

    "Deepwater Horizon"

    "Masterminds"

    "A Man Called Ove"

    Television

Did you enjoy "Daredevil" or "Jessica Jones?" Then you’ll be excited to know that Marvel’s newest Netflix show, Luke Cage is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, September 30. Mike Colter reprises his titular role, this time moving from Hell’s Kitchen to Harlem, unbreakable skin and all.

    Music

A & O Blowout is this weekend! Come on over to Welsh-Ryan on September 30th to see Kehlani and Young Thug rock the house for Northwestern’s annual fall concert. You can purchase tickets here.
