NUDM introduces new social fundraising system

For Northwestern Dance Marathon 2014 participants, sharing fundraising goals will now be a click away.

NUDM officials announced a new online fundraising platform at the first all-dancer and committee meeting Thursday.

The system allows dancers and committee members to create a public fundraising page, which details his or her personal story and fundraising progress.

Links to the pages are shareable on social media and by email. The system is powered by Stay Classy, an online fundraising software for non-profit organizations. In 2011, Stay Classy named NUDM the most influential college organization in the country.

Donations can be made directly on individual sites. Fundraising will benefit the NUDM 2014 beneficiaries, Team Joseph and the Evanston Community Foundation.

In addition to dancers and committee members, alumni and local community members are now able to create a page if they wish to fundraise.

All individual progress will be public throughout the fundraising season, but the total amount raised, including group and corporate donations, will be revealed in the last hour of the marathon, NUDM officials announced in the release.

“We are excited to reveal a new social and crowd-sourced fundraising platform,” Finance Co-Chair John Park said in a release. “We hope that this system makes it easier for dancers to reach their fundraising goals and spread awareness about our beneficiaries.”

NUDM executive officials, Norris Business Operations, the Center for Student Involvement and the Office of Alumni Relations & Development worked together to bring the platform to Northwestern, according to the release.

Dancers and committee members can track their fundraising progress with the system up until the 30-hour event, which occurs March 7-9, 2014.
