Changes to the football tailgate rules
Students must now present proper identification and wear a wristband to consume alcohol at the student tailgate, Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students Todd Adams announced in an email Friday. Northwestern students and their guests must now also show a valid college ID to enter the tailgate. These rules took effect for Saturday’s loss to Michigan and will remain in place for next week’s game against Michigan State.
Northwestern plans to update Welsh-Ryan Arena
Northwestern will make major renovations to Welsh-Ryan Arena at the end of this season, according to the Chicago Tribune. Upgrades include a new court to replace the often-mocked purple stain currently in use, a new scoreboard and new seats. Northwestern officials have not commented because funding for the process is not finalized, according to the Tribune.
Finalists’ designs for building on old Prentice site debuted
Three finalist designs were unveiled for the new biomedical research building slated to replace the Prentice Women’s Hospital, according to Arch Daily. The new building will connect to the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.
This development comes after a contentious but ultimately unsuccessful battle to preserve the hospital as a Chicago landmark. Construction for the new building is expected to begin in 2015.
