Former student Alexis Lasker committed suicide Saturday.
Lasker, 22, was discoverd at a residence on the 2500 block of West Fitch Avenue in Chicago. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:28 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
According to Vice President of University Relations Al Cubbage, Alexis Lasker was a junior in the School of Communication. Her last term of enrollment was Fall Quarter 2012.
Lasker is not listed in the Northwestern directory, but was a member of the class of 2014 and studied Communication Sciences and Disorders, according to her Facebook page. She is listed as a Quest Scholar on the Northwestern chapter’s page of the national organization. She was also a a member of the Honors Program in Medical Education.
Chicago Police Department Spokeswoman Janel Sedevic said the police were alerted of the incident after request for a “checked well-being.” She could not confirm police were present when Lasker was found, but said a checked well-being usually refers to a request made by family or friends for the police to accompany them to check on a person when they have been out of contact or when family or friends are concerned.
The news of Lasker's death came on the same day as another former student's, Caleb Dayton, who died Tuesday evening.
"We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Alexis Lasker and Caleb Dayton," Cubbage said. "Although neither of them was currently enrolled at Northwestern, their absence will be felt and they will be remembered by their friends, fellow students and the Northwestern community."
A vigil for Lasker will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Leopold Room, Harris Hall 108, according to Weinberg senior Gina Tremmel, an organizer for the vigil.
