Common will perform at Dillo Day 2008, Mayfest announced on its Web site Monday.
Mayfest, which plans Dillo Day, had been in negotiations with the rapper’s management and were were close to signing the Chicago native last week.
“The contracts are in,” Mayfest co-chair Ben Stix said in an e-mail.
Common has produced multiple albums and his 2007 album Finding Forever hit number one on Billboard’s Top 200 list. He has also been a part of two Grammy Award-winning songs. “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip Hop),” won the 2003 “Best R&B Song.” “Southside,” which he performed with Kanye West, won the 2008 “Best Rap Performance by Duo or Group.”
Common has also appeared in several films, including Smokin’ Aces and American Gangster.
Dillo Day will be May 31 this year.
