Andy Samberg to speak on campus April 15

Saturday Night Live comedian Andy Samberg will speak in a Fiedler Hillel-sponsored “interactive conversation” with Northwestern students on April 15 at Tech’s Ryan Auditorium, the group announced today.

Tickets will be $5 and go on sale Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Norris Box Office. Students can bring one WildCARD and will be limited to two tickets. Hillel will sell up to 600 tickets.

Instead of a stand-up routine, the format will be “a conversation” with the comedian moderated by Communication junior Shauna Perlman, Hillel’s leadership president, Scott Topal, said. Topal envisions Samberg taking questions from the audience and talking about being on SNL and being a young Jewish person, but Samberg will decide what he talks about.

“He’s really excited for this event,” Topal added.

Samberg is in his third season at SNL, and is known for his part in SNL’s Digital Shorts and his “Lazy Sunday” and “Dick in a Box” routines, according to Saturday Night Live’s Web site. He has recently been filmed in his first feature film, “Hot Rod.”

The group picked Samberg because he will connect people to Jewish culture.

“He’s young, Jewish, supercool,” Topal said.

Hillel has been looking for a speaker since it got funding for one in Spring Quarter 2007. Hillel gets money for one big speaker per year from the Student Activities Fee.
