Chidi-ching-ching could be anything but Mayfest just dropped that…rapper ScHoolboy Q will perform as Dillo Day 2016’s nighttime headliner.
The artist, whose most famous hits include “Collard Greens,” “Man of the Year,” “Break the Bank” and “Studio,” has released three albums and one mixtape since he began his career in 2006. His first major-label studio album, Oxymoron, was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammys.
He is also well-known for his partnership with Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, who together formed the rapping group “Black Hippy” in 2009, and frequently appear in and contribute to each other’s work.
“The fact that some of his music was released in 2014 and 2012 and people are still listening to it is really incredible,” said Mayfest Director of Concerts Yumiko Mannarelli. “His affiliations are incredible and he’s also coming out with more music. So it’s very important that we can bring someone who has a solid fan base on campus and who can also provide students with new music in the future.”
Mayfest officials’ announcement comes at an exciting time for ScHoolboy Q fans: Just three days ago, the artist allegedly turned in his completed fourth album to Top Dawg Entertainment. The president of TDE announced on Twitter in January that the album is expected to drop before this summer.
Dillo Day will take place on Saturday, May 21.
