Northwestern sent out acceptance letters for the Class of 2017 to 4,554 applicants Friday, according to a University press release sent out Tuesday morning.
A record 32,772 applications were received for the Class of 2017, which translates to an admit rate of only 13.9 percent, continuing the University's recent trend of shrinking acceptance rates.
Though the acceptance rate is at a record low, the class is expected to be the most diverse in the school's history. The accepted students include a record numbers of both international students and students from the Chicago area as well as students from all 50 states, according to the release.
"We have worked hard to increase the quality and diversity of each incoming class," Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Christopher Watson said in the release. "The last few years of hard work are paying off."
