    NU grad to take over "Late Night"

    Longtime SNL star and Northwestern alum Seth Meyers (Communication '96) will take over as host of the "Late Night" show when current host Jimmy Fallon replaces Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show," NBC announced Sunday.

    While at Northwestern, Meyers was a part of Mee-Ow, the sketch comedy group on campus. He also served as the Homecoming grand marshal in 2011.

    Morty to speak at Garrett-Evangelical commencement

    Northwestern President Morton Schapiro will receive an honorary degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary when he gives the school's commencement address Friday.

    Garrett-Evangelical is a Methodist graduate school of theology on the Northwestern campus. Though the two are technically separate institutions, Northwestern and Garrett-Evangelical have a long-standing cooperative relationship.

    Norris dedicates 40-year time capsule

    In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Norris University Center, Norris will be putting on "Blues & BBQ," a free concert featuring electric blues vocalist Shemekia Copeland. The event will also feature the dedication of a time capsule that will be stored in the University Archives and opened in 40 years.

    Class of 2017 most diverse yet

    After admitting a record low percentage of applicants – 13.9 percent – Northwestern finally has a picture of what the Class of 2017 will look like in the fall.

    About 2,025 students have matriculated at Northwestern for the upcoming year, according to a University statement released Tuesday. Black and Hispanic students make up 20 percent of the class, and Asian-American students make up 19 percent, while international students account for another 9 percent.

    According to the release, 91 percent of incoming students were in the top decile of their graduating high school class.

    In addition to increasing diversity and academic standards, the University also saw an increased yield rate with 45.3 percent of admitted students committing to Northwestern.
