    NU faculty bring kids to work

    Northwestern celebrated its 19th annual Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day Thursday. The yearly event, meant to show youth aged 8 through 16 the advantages of a college education, was observed on both the Evanston and Chicago campuses.

    The festivities were open to relatives and friends of University faculty. They had the opportunity to attend events centered on different careers. The Evanston campus offered 54 different events, and the Chicago campus offered 24.

    NU undergrads to write episode for classic soap opera

    Three Northwestern undergrads have been given the opportunity to write a web-exclusive episode for the iconic soap opera All My Children, according to a University press release Monday. The drama, which premiered in 1970 and finally went off air in 2011, is coming back to production this year as a web series available on Hulu and iTunes.

    Communication senior Emily Acker, junior Hilary Flynn and sophomore Benjamin Sullivan-Knoff were offered the opportunity after winning the Agnes Nixon Playwriting Award, named after Northwestern grad and All My Children creator Agnes Nixon.

    5 faculty members win prestigious fellowships

    The American Academy of Arts and Sciences named five Northwestern faculty members into its 2013 class of members, a University release said Wednesday. The academy was founded in 1780 to "[foster] public engagement and the exchange of ideas," according to its website.

    The five faculty members awarded this honor are Kellogg and political science professor Daniel Diermeier, Kellogg professor Janice Eberly, economics professor Martin Eichenbaum, history professor Sarah Maza and economics professor Asher Wolinsky.
