"Sorcery."
That’s what my friend said when I told him that I made bread out of ice cream. And it kind of is sorcery, but it’s also painless to make.
To make ice cream bread, you just need two easy-to-find ingredients: flour, which you can get at CVS or Whole Foods, and a pint of your favorite flavor of ice cream from your nearby C-Store. I used Ben & Jerry’s vanilla ice cream, but you can use any flavor or brand. Chunks of fruit or chocolate will only enhance the flavor.
I borrowed an eight by four inch loaf pan, but if you’re willing to make the trek to Jewel, you can buy your own.
To start, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray the loaf pan with cooking grease so that the bread doesn’t stick to the pan when you try to take it out. Also, let the pint of ice cream sit out for 20-30 minutes so it's soft enough to mix.
Once it’s done, let it cool for a few minutes and then take it out of the pan and serve. Since the flavor of the ice cream is more mild in bread form, jam is a tasty spread if you want something sweeter.
Ice cream bread makes the perfect afternoon snack. Put it in the oven before you start studying and it’ll be done by the time your well-deserved study break comes around. Or make it in different flavors for a bake sale.
A delicious treat with a simple recipe? It really is sorcery. If only there was a magic trick for doing the dishes.
