T-Pain and AlunaGeorge will be performing at A&O Spring Ball 2014 on April 24 at the Riviera Theatre, A&O announced Friday.
“He was a name that’s always been on our list,” A&O’s director of concerts and Communication senior Morgan Hecht said of T-Pain. “Instead of just having a throwback artist, we’d have someone who was releasing new music because that’d be a draw for other students who may not have listened to him in middle school.”
Hecht said she was especially interested in the Grammy-winning artist after hearing his NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
“He’s extremely talented,” Hecht said. “He doesn’t perform with autotune so we’re really excited about the actual performance.”
AlunaGeorge, the electric pop duo founded by vocalist Aluna Francis and George Reid, has not had much exposure in the U.S. despite their debut studio album Body Music peaking at number 11 on the United Kingdom music charts. They have also collaborated with Disclosure on the song “White Noise.”
“They’re very established,” Hecht said, adding that A&O’s main goal is to attract as many students as possible. “We thought it’d appeal to a really different audience.”
Doors will open at 7 p.m. AlunaGeorge will perform at 8 p.m. and T-Pain will follow at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will go on sale online Wednesday April 15 at 10 a.m. Free shuttles will transport students to and from the venue, and WildCARDs will be checked at the door.
“These were both top choices for us," Hecht said. "We’re really excited about these artists.”
