White frat boy rap is in season, I guess

If only we had a dollar for every time Northwestern University ends up on Gawker. This time there are no e-mails from Burgie Howard about blow jobs or blackface, only sophomore Chet Hanks’ — excuse me, Chet Haze’s — foray into hip-hop. It’s an update on Mo Greene’s “White & Purple (NU Anthem 2010)” track, which in turn is a spin off of Whiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow.” Be forewarned — Chet’s living college life only ’til the world is his.

And while we’re at it, here’s a rundown of five of our favorite Northwestern and Evanston raps. Who knew we were such a hip-hop hub?

Nothing pumps up a tailgate quite like Mo Greene’s “Go U.” This is one song that really could have used a TicketCity Bowl remix — what rhymes with Watkins?

Released last quarter, Booshua’s “Dear Alma-Mater” has some words of advice — namely to “study hard, party harder.” If you can’t find a fake, though, we can’t recommend you use a Wildcard instead.

In this song that just won’t die, Dem Pike Boyz prove that it doesn’t take perfect spelling to be “team of the year.” Still, sure is nice of them to share their greatness with the rest of the bar (“thanks, dad!”).

Even Common has spit a verse about us more than once, thankfully sans references to feeling up classmates. He also freestyled at For Members Only’s State of the Black Union address in the fall.

It’s an homage to Evanston Township High School, big boobs, racial and economic segregation, petty crime and the abomination that is Northwestern. It also tells you where to buy weed — complete with screenshots from Google Street View. And you know what? It’s probably the best rap in this list.

Update: Commenter Kanye directs our attention to “That Guy,” a 2006 rundown of NU stereotypes that — despite its near-total lack of women and non-white people — still seems painfully accurate. Yes, ThatCollegeGuy, we’re crying too.
