President Morton Schapiro announced Monday at the freshman convocation that indie rock band Young the Giant and well-known rapper Nas will be coming to Welsh-Ryan Arena on October 12 for A&O’s Blowout 2012.
If you are unfamiliar with Young the Giant, the band has been dubbed the “Band to Watch” from publications such as The New York Times and Nylon. They also recently headlined the first ever mtvU Woodie Tour.
Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, better known as Nas, has released eight consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums since 1994. His most recent album, “Life Is Good,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums this past July.
"Having both Nas and Young the Giant obviously has appeal to not only people who like hip-hop, but also fans of alternative rock," said Logan Koepke, A&O chairman. "We were trying to hit on as many music constituents as possible. When these two options were available, we thought they'd be very complimentary to each other."
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets will be available on the Norris Box Office website at nbo.northwestern.edu for $10 each. They go on sale Monday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided for students to bus them to and from Welsh-Ryan Arena.
