Weinberg junior Avantika Khatri, 21, passed away Monday, according to an e-mail sent to the Northwestern community Monday night.

Khatri was found by her roommate at 1:15 p.m. on the 2000 block of Maple and emergency units pronounced her deceased on the scene, Evanston police Cmdr. Joe Dugan said in an e-mail.

"There is no indication of foul play and no threat or danger to other members of the Northwestern community," said Alan Cubbage, the VP for University Relations, to NBN in an e-mail.

The cause of death is currently unknown and under investigation, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, who said the investigation could take weeks.

Cmdr. Dugan said the cause of death is pending toxicology results.

Originally from Missouri, Khatri entered Northwestern as a journalism major and recently transferred to Weinberg.

The University encourages students to reach out to CAPS, the Dean of Students Office and/or the Chaplain's office for grief counseling or any other assistance.
