Fifth-year senior John Thumel passed away yesterday following a car accident in Brazoria County, Texas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The single-vehicle car accident occurred Friday morning at 2:26 a.m. Thumel was transported to a hospital in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and died yesterday in the hospital.
Thumel was in Texas this summer working at Dow Chemical Company as an engineering intern. At Northwestern, he was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemical and biological engineering. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
His wake will be held on Friday, July 31 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel in Libertyville, IL, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. His funeral will be on Saturday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m.
