The death of Weinberg junior Alyssa Weaver has been ruled a suicide by authorities in London, said Al Cubbage, Northwestern vice president for University Relations, who was informed the about the nature of Weaver's death from her parents.

"We've been in contact with Alyssa's family," Cubbage said. "Obviously that's the first thing we do."

Weaver died on Wednesday while studying abroad at Goldsmiths College in London. Northwestern students received an email about the death on Friday.

"On behalf of the University, I extend our sympathies to Alyssa's family and to her friends here at Northwestern," wrote Patricia Telles-Irvin, vice president for Student Affairs. "The loss of one of our students affects all of us who are members of the Northwestern community."

Staff from the university's Counseling and Psychological Services and the Chaplain's Office met with members of Chi Omega, Weaver's sorority, Sunday night.

There will be a memorial service for Weaver on campus, Cubbage said, but the date and location have not been confirmed.
