Riccardo Muti named 2014 commencement speaker

    Riccardo Muti, music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will deliver the commencement address for the Class of 2014, Northwestern University News announced in a press release Thursday afternoon.

    Muti has conducted many operas and concerts across the world, from the annual Salzburg Festival to the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has been conducting the CSO since 2010, creating an orchestral version of The Blackhawks’ goal song Chelsea Dagger during last year's Stanley Cup.

    Muti will be awarded with an honorary degree along with four other recipients: Sara Bloomfield, Richard Easterlin, Cloris Leachman and Stevie Wonder.
