Polls open for royalty elections as Homecoming Week kicks off

Homecoming week kicks off Monday, as online polls open for an amped-up homecoming royalty election. The homecoming committee worked to increase the presence of the royalty nominees to the campus community this year.

“We wanted leaders, dynamic people on campus, leaders of purple pride,” said Homecoming co-chair Stephanie Weinstein.

Weinstein explained that the nomination process was bumped up to spring quarter so that nominees could make appearances around campus and through community service involvement. The nominees participated in the President’s Convocation during Wildcat Welcome Week, high-fiving all 2000 freshman during the March to the Arch.

Also new this year, the nominees are featured around campus in a bulletin board campaign in the residence halls. Voting goes live on NUlink Monday at midnight and closes Friday night at midnight. The winners will be announced during the football game Saturday.

Students can expect lunch time a cappella and step performances around campus. Homecoming events include free giveaways at the arch and tech, late night at Clarke’s, kickball Tuesday, co-sponsored DM trivia, blood drives Wednesday in Norris and Thursday in Patten, the Cary Brothers performance Thursday, the parade and a first-time pep rally on Deering Field.

Grand Marshall Stephanie March (Comm. ‘96) will make three appearances over the weekend, including one with her husband, celebrity chef Bobby Flay.
