To cover the rapidly-developing events in Israel and Lebanon, The New York Times has effectively created a news blog on their front page where it can post ‘Latest Developments’ without linking them to a full story, quote, or even author (see bottom right):
All the the developments are then captured in a frequently updated article.
I like the idea, but it’s clear there are some editing problems: Lebanon did not say Syria and Iran must be ‘held to account.’ In the full page, you see that it was the United States that said that.
In general, the major dailies are getting better and better at putting together all their resources on big stories. There are interactive maps, photos, and reader reactions, pretty neatly packaged.
