Remembering James Foley
Northwestern will hold a memorial service for alumnus James Foley, who was killed in August while reporting on the ongoing crisis in Syria. Foley graduated from Medill in 2008 with a master’s degree. The memorial service, open to the public, will be held in Alice Millar Chapel on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m.
Science Fiction becomes fact
Northwestern is about to receive an electron detector, as part of the $3 million Infrastructure Initiative sponsored by the Chicago Biomedical Consortium. The electron detector will be among the first of its kind in the Midwest, bringing Chicago to the forefront of scientific innovations.
Cookie Dough comes to Norris
For Real Dough, a business created and run by Northwestern student Michelle Schechter, had its official launch party at Norris University Center on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The company sells raw, eggless cookie dough in the Norris C-Store and is looking to expand to other campuses, according to its website.

Comedian and satirist Jon Stewart made a stop in Chicago to promote his newly released movie, Rosewater, and couldn’t resist taking another dig at Chicago’s beloved signature deep dish pizza during an interview with a local CBS station.
Kresge catches fire
Thursday morning, students might have woken up to the sound of alarms – fire alarms – as firefighters responded to a fire that started in Kresge Hall as construction and demolition continued in the building. No one was hurt in the incident, and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly and safely.
