Weinberg Dean leaving Northwestern
Weinberg Dean Sarah Mangelsdorf revealed Thursday that she is leaving Northwestern in August. She has been named the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She said though she is excited about the upcoming opportunities and challenges, she is “deeply saddened to be leaving Northwestern.”
Students, faculty and alumni share ideas at TEDx NorthwesternU
Twelve speakers, chosen from nearly 100 applicants, focused on the theme “crossing paths” at TEDx yesterday. This is the first Northwestern-exclusive TEDx event. According to Northwestern News, videos of the speakers will be posted at TED.
Two Northwestern faculty awarded Guggenheim fellowships
Kellogg’s Daniel Diermeier and McCormick’s Jiaxing Huang were named 2014 Guggenheim Fellows. There were almost 3,000 applicants from the United States and Canada, but only 178 were chosen.
Conversations with President Schapiro this month
President Morton Schapiro will hold conversations with Northwestern staff, faculty and students April 17 and 23. Schapiro plans to discuss the university’s goals and challenges, as well as progress on the fundraising campaign, “We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern.”
Integrative Medicine renamed after donation
Because of San Francisco businessman Bernard Osher’s multi-million dollar donation, Northwestern Integrative Medicine will be called the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Northwestern University. The donation will “help the center advance medical education, collaborate on research initiatives and create innovative clinical models of care, including supportive care related to cancer and heart treatment.”
