McCormick junior Jason Arkin passed away Tuesday, according to an email from Todd Adams, assistant vice president and dean of students.
As of now, his cause of death is unknown, Adams said in an email to the Northwestern community Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday at 4:52 a.m. the Evanston Fire Department responded to a call from 1835 Hinman. Arkin was reported to be "having some type of seizure," according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joe Dugan. The fire department was able to speak with the student and he was then transported to the Evanston Hospital.
At 3:25 p.m., the student was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. He was then transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, where the cause of death will be determined. Preliminary investigation "is revealing that the student may have committed suicide," Dugan said in an email.
Originally from Kansas, Arkin was a third-year student at Northwestern, majoring in electrical engineering. He lived in Slivka Residential College his first two years at Northwestern, and lived in Hinman this school year.
The University encourages students to reach out to CAPS, the Dean of Students Office and/or the Chaplain's office for grief counseling or any other assistance.
