You might not recognize Lunice's name, but you'll definitely recognize his music.
Mayfest representatives announced Thursday night at Battle of the Bands that Lunice will be the penultimate act of Dillo Day.
Lunice is part of the electronic dance music duo TNGHT, which is best known for the track "Higher Ground."
"We always try to make sure our lineup reflects the relevancy of the music taste on campus," said Weinberg junior Xander Shepherd, Mayfest's Concerts Chair. "So when you look at someone like Lunice, he brings this extensive library of music from his own work he does as well as the work he does as part of the duo TNGHT, as well as all the collaborations and features he has with people from Azealia Banks to Danny Brown to all artists in the middle."
This year, Mayfest is going back to the model of having the penultimate act being a lead-in to the headliner. Last year, there were two midsize headliners – Big Boi and Steve Aoki – at the end of the night.
According to Shepherd, Mayfest's "Who do you want for Dillo Day?" campaign was useful in terms of understanding what was happening in the music scene on campus.
"What we try to do every year and what we really tried to do this year is to pick acts that are really trending on campus and across the country," said Communication senior Jeremy Shpizner, one of the co-chairs of Mayfest. "So that means picking acts that are festival-relevant, acts that people are really getting engaged with and people that are on the up-and-up. I think Lunice is definitely one of those people in the EDM category."
With Dillo Day 2013 just more than a week away, Mayfest has yet to announce two artists in the lineup.
