It's a social network, not the NSA

facebooknewsfeed.jpgYou know all those home surveillance videos of nannies and misbehaving teens? Yeah, about that…

Facebook now shows everything you do on the site to your networks: When you write on a wall, edit your profile, add photos, add friends, join groups, change your status, write a note, and accept or decline an event invitation.

The logs of all of your friends are aggregated onto your welcome page (see the image).

The only things I haven’t seen displayed are pokes and messages… yet.

It’s honestly freaks me out. Social sites are supposed to be fun and a convenient way to look someone up… not sites that track your every move. The Facebook blog says no new information is public, which is technically true. But in the past the only way people could have gotten things like declined events, all your status updates, etc., was manually going through every profile and group and recording every change.. every second.

Facebook has always been slightly creepy, but at least you felt in control of what you show to other people. Now it feels like Facebook can choose to show whatever they want.
