Glee: "The Rhodes Not Taken"
By

This week’s Glee didn’t really go anywhere. We got Rachel back in the club, but that was kind of it. As usual though, it was still great fun.

    Episode Overview

First of all, Kristin Chenoweth basically took over this episode. She guest stars as April Rhodes, Will’s first high school crush, now a has-been drunk, yet with a phenomenal voice — she was operatically trained, by the way. Will finds her high school file, which shows that she was three credits short (bad, Mr. Schue) and recruits her to go back to high school so she can join the club, currently sans Rachel.

Emma also tells Finn that he could possibly get a music scholarship for college, so he goes and tries to seduce Rachel so that she’ll come back to the club. And now the drama: Puck tells the club that Finn knocked up Quinn, Rachel finds out when she rejoins and Finn gets a huge slap on the face — but we don’t see Quinn or her reaction to everyone knowing about the celibacy club president’s recent activities. Nor do we see her except for two lines, and some rushing off with morning sickness.

Which brings us to Terri, who’s not pregnant, and now has a suspicious husband due to lack of present morning sickness. We also see Sue for about a minute (brilliantly, of course), a super creepy and mean Sandy, no sign of Coach Ken and evidently rehearsals went on in between scenes. However, I wish I could go bowling right now, I loved Rachel’s Sailor Moon outfit as well as the the gospel organ/Bernard Herrmann-like background music and I relived high school with the “Somebody to Love” choral arrangement.

Predictions: Well, I saw the preview for next week. There appears to be some more suspicion within relationships, a proposal and I think some more drama. Now that Rachel’s back, hopefully we’ll see some of the songs they’ve rehearsed in the past. And hopefully we’ll focus on more characters that we don’t know as well.

Music Tips: Although it may not seem so from this episode, it has been proven that people who sing have happier and more fulfilling lives. Just in case you were wondering.
