Glee: “The Power of Madonna”
By

Just from this episode’s title, you know you’re in for something good.

Madonna is everywhere — hair is suddenly higher, lipstick is darker, and the self-confidence grows like whoa. From the get-go, we find out that Sue idolizes Madonna and gets Figgins to play her music on the PA system. Meanwhile, the girls of the glee club need some help standing up to their male counterparts, and the spirit of Madonna steps in to take charge, build some more confidence and, of course, add a great soundtrack to the episode. Other happenings: Will and Sue have a bit of a fight, Mercedes and Kurt side with Sue, Jesse joins the episode late (though we’ll be seeing more of him in later episodes), and one or more member(s) may lose his/her virginity!

In light of this episode, I’m sure I will be living my days with my new favorite (and Sue’s) mantra: What would Madonna do?

Music Tip: Music is known to have a powerful effect on people and enhance emotions — probably why you listen to Mika when you’re happy and Muse when you feel awful and need to shout at someone. This effect is definitely seen in Finn and Rachel’s performance that dances its way into the library (singing is somehow allowed). They start off a bit angry yet end with sexual tension because the song transports them to another place emotionally.
