Life is suddenly better: the sun is out, and Glee is back on television. We start off the second half of the season with Will and Emma starting to date (finally!), Finn and Rachel already dating, Sue slipping Figgins a roofie to get her back as a coach, and Sue still trying to sabotage Glee — except her goal is now Rachel (via Finn). And the soundtrack is great — the Doors, the Beatles, Lionel Ritchie, AC/DC and the All-American Rejects.
Known Broadway veterans join this episode, based on the word “hello” in songs. Idina Menzel of Wicked (and wife of Taye Diggs) is the business-only coach of Vocal Adrenaline, and Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele’s counterpart in Spring Awakening, is Jesse, the lead singer of the enemy group. We see some potential bumpy roads for the gleeks as Vocal Adrenaline seduces its lead singer and director, and it’ll be over for New Directions if they don’t place in regionals.
Predictions: Madonna. She gave the copyrights of her songs to Glee, and we’ll get to see them in action next week. (Yeah!) I predict to see some more tension with the Finn—Rachel—Jesse storyline. Regionals are coming up, and the love triangle will not be going away quickly. There are also some potential bumps in the road for Will and Emma. Hopefully these will be worked on next week.
Music Tips: “I like to give impromptu concerts for the homeless. It’s so important to give back.” That’s a fine idea. However, I have never actually participated in an impromptu concert nor seen one with an orchestra in a library, let alone a piano in a library. So, it may be difficult to recreate — just in case you’re wondering.
I loved New Directions singing “Hello, Goodbye” in only black and white. It may be reading into things, but word painting can be awesome, and this is definitely one of those times. It was tasteful, the arrangement was well done, and it looked good on stage (even if the Minnie Mouse bows were a bit much for me).
