Americans are pretty down on France nowadays. Cheese, wine, and berets just aren’t very “American.”
But French Minister of Culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres may change that image with two things Americans love: tax breaks and video games.
Vabres hopes to have video games labeled as a “cultural industry,” making them eligible for tax breaks that other industries like film receive.
This means the landscape textures of World of Warcraft would be in the same class as Monet’s water lilies.
Some people are for the change, namely French video game developers, but international organizations are unsure. Others think that the measure will make game makers less in touch with the public — as some say French cinema has become.
