Women’s Tennis (@NUWildcatTennis)

Northwestern finished its run in the ITA Midwest Regionals on Tuesday. Senior Kate Turvy joined the exclusive list of Midwest Regional Singles Champions, after defeating Britney Sanders of No. 19 Notre Dame. This match marked Turvy’s first appearance in the title match, although she has been to the semifinals three times. With this win, Turvy earns an automatic bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships from Nov. 8-11.

The women’s Wildcat Invite took place from Oct. 12-14, and both the singles and doubles brackets lit up with Northwestern purple. Three of No. 12 Northwestern’s doubles teams advanced to the final round of the tournament: senior Linda Abu Mushrefova/junior Nida Hamilton, Turvy/freshman Alicia Barnett and junior Belinda Niu/sophomore Anna Livadaru. Hamilton, Turvy and Niu also won their respective singles draws on the last day of the tournament.

Field Hockey (@NUFHCats)

After destroying Central Michigan with a score of 6-0 on Oct. 14, the No. 8 women’s field hockey team hasn’t slowed down. The Wildcats beat No. 20 Michigan State 2-1 and shut out another opponent by a score of 6-0 when they played Missouri State. Against Michigan State on Oct. 19, senior Chelsea Armstrong and freshman Lena Phillips each scored to put Northwestern up by two. Sophomore goalie Maddy Carpenter had five saves.

The game against Missouri State on Oct. 21 was Senior Day and the seniors definitely showed up for the last home game of their college careers. Armstrong continued her domination of the field with four goals, while redshirt senior Kaylee Pohlmeyer and junior Tara Puffenberger each added a goal as well. The Northwestern defense held Missouri State to just two shots on goal the entire game, making senior goalie Amanda Wirth’s job easy. The team will face Iowa in its last regular-season game on Oct. 28 before the Big Ten Tournament, a tournament they could easily dominate if they keep up their level of play.

The men’s golf team did not fair as well in the Rod Meyers Invitational as it has previously this season. After day one of the tournament, Northwestern was ranked ninth out of 11 teams. It was a gloomy first day, but senior Nick Losole found a bright spot, recording his second career hole-in-one.

The next day the trouble started early when redshirt freshman Scott Smith hit his ball into the water on the 12th hole of the course at Duke University Golf Club, where the tournament was hosted by No. 21 Duke. Losole and junior Jack Perry also had rough starts. However, all three players erased their earlier setbacks, and Perry ended the tournament as Northwestern’s top finisher, placing 25th overall. The team’s final fall tournament will be the Gifford Collegiate from Nov. 5-7 hosted by No. 4 UCLA.

Women’s Golf (@NUGolf_Live)

The women’s golf team added another top-five finish to its season in the Mercedes Benz Women’s Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., from Oct. 12-14. In the first two days, Northwestern played well, cementing a fifth place spot by the end of day two.

The team’s last day in Knoxville was one to remember. Not only was Northwestern’s round the best of all teams in the tournament, it was also the team's best round of the season so far. Freshman Kaitlin Park had a huge day, as she was only one stroke away (5-under 67) from the school record of 18 holes set by current senior Lauren Weaver, who also had a good showing at the tournament. Park shot the best individual round of any golfer at the tournament. Maintaining her lead, sophomore Hana Lee finished the best tournament of her career, tied in fourth place. Overall, the team finished fourth out of 16 teams. The team’s next tournament is the Landfall Tradition from Oct. 26-28.

Women’s Cross Country (@NUwildcatXC)

Northwestern’s women’s cross country squad was split on Oct. 12, when the team competed in both the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational and the Bradley Classic. Senior Audrey Huth ran a record-setting race at Wisconsin’s Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course, running it in 20:19 and breaking the school record she set as a sophomore. Huth placed 32nd out of 320 runners. Junior Michelle Moriset and senior Sophie Ewald each ran the best 6K of their college careers in 20:50 and 21:19, respectively. The team finished fourth out of 10 Big Ten schools that competed.

At the Bradley Classic, Northwestern finished seventh out of 27 teams. The Wildcats’ top finisher was junior Nicole Oliver, who ran the 6K in 21:47 and placed 22nd. The team will start competition in the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 28.

The Northwestern men’s tennis team competed in the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Michigan State from Oct. 19-21. The explosive duo of senior Spencer Wolf and junior Raleigh Smith was seeded third in the tournament and advanced to the 32 round by defeating one of Toledo’s doubles teams. Another Northwestern doubles team, comprised of freshman Mihir Kumar and sophomore Alex Pasareanu, moved on to the next round as well, beating another Toledo pair. The third doubles team from Northwestern, senior Chris Jackman and freshman Fedor Baev, was not able to overcome an Illinois State duo.

The players in the singles bracket performed well until Ohio State’s Constantin Christ eliminated Jackman in the round of 16. Wolf, Smith, Kumar and Pasareanu all advanced in the first round but ultimately lost in the proceeding round. Northwestern will host its own tournament, the Wildcat Invite, on Friday, followed by the start of the Big Ten Singles Tournament from Nov. 1-3.

Volleyball (@NUVball)

The volleyball team swept Iowa 3-0 on Saturday, putting the team back on track in the Big Ten Standings. The Wildcats' next two matches will be on the road against conference rivals No. 10 Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Player of the Week: Sophomore Yewande Akanbi

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team celebrated its Senior Day with a 1-0 victory over Iowa. This win gave head coach Michael Moynihan and assistant coach David Nikolic their 199th win of their collegiate careers. The team will try to get their coaches a 200th win against Michigan State on Saturday.

Player of the Week: Sophomore Niki Sebo

Men’s Soccer (@NUMensSoccer)

Northwestern’s men’s soccer team dropped out of the national rankings with their loss to Penn State on Senior Day. Although the teams were neck-and-neck throughout regulation and the first overtime, the Wildcats could not hold off Penn State, losing 1-0. The team will travel to Indiana on Nov. 1 for their final regular season game.
