On a gloomy afternoon in Evanston, the ninth-ranked Northwestern field hockey team beat Central Michigan University, 6-0.

The ‘Cats and the Chippewas were tied for the first 15 minutes, despite Central Michigan having a 4-2 penalty corner advantage during that time span.

Neither team was able to capitalize on their penalty corners until Northwestern senior Chelsea Armstrong scored her 23rd goal of the season off of a penalty corner in the 16th minute. Armstrong scored again in the 20th minute off another Northwestern penalty corner.

In the 32nd minute, 'Cats junior Catherine Franklin scored her first goal of the season on a loose ball near the net.

The halftime score was a 3-0 lead for the ‘Cats, despite the 6-5 penalty corner advantage for Central Michigan.

The second half began scoreless for the first 23 minutes, at which point a delay was called for lightning in the area. The delay lasted over two hours, and there were some tornado warnings in the area during this time.

The game resumed around 4:30 p.m., and the ‘Cats got right back into rhythm in a highly energized fashion. Freshman midfielder Caroline Troncelliti scored two goals in the first two minutes of resumed play. Sophomore midfielder Mary Susan Bro capped off the game with a goal, scored with only 22 seconds remaining.

This was the Wildcats' sixth straight win and third straight shutout.
