Dillo Day main stage to move to Lakeside field

Lakeside Field didn't host a championship lacrosse game this year, but a music festival might be a nice consolation prize.

Due to Lakefill construction and significant rainfall over the past few days, Mayfest announced that the main stage of Dillo Day will be moved just a few hundred feet over to the lacrosse field this year. Working with NUPD, the Division of Student Affairs, Northwestern's Office of Risk Management and a number of other groups, Mayfest made the decision Wednesday morning after discovering that the previous space, located right to Lakeside Field, was under four to six inches of water.

Apart from the location change, Mayfest anticipates no other changes whatsoever to the festival.

"We're literally just lifting [the stage] up off of the Dillo field to the lacrosse field," said Communication senior Justin Wolf, co-chair of Mayfest. "All of the entrances and exits will remain the same, and the stage will still be facing out towards the water."

While there was originally some concern that the change would create capacity restrictions, Mayfest actually found evidence to the contrary.

"There's actually more space on the lacrosse field," said Medill senior Steven Goldstein, co-chair of promotions for Mayfest. "It has more area to fit people than the old field did. That's not to say there's necessarily going to be more room – it's just not going to be a concern."

All set times will remain the same, and all other Dillo Day installations will remain in the same spot.
