Mayfest "put in work," and we're all going to reap the benefits come May 30.
Harlem-based rapper A$AP Ferg has been announced as the fourth artist for Dillo Day 2015. He is scheduled to occupy the 3:00 PM slot in the day's programming, the same that featured Chance The Rapper last year and Danny Brown two years earlier. Mayfest first announced the news through their Dillo Day App on Thursday evening.
Born Donald Ferguson, Ferg rose to prominence as part of the hip hop collective A$AP Mob after cohort A$AP Rocky broke through in 2011. Soon after, however, he experienced a breakout of his own, releasing his debut album "Trap Lord" in 2013 to critical acclaim. His singles "Work" and "Shabba" were both met with wild popularity, and each music video has more than 30 million views on YouTube.
"Ferg reaches all types of hip hop fans and NU students," said Medill junior Steven Goldstein, co-chair of Mayfest, in a press release. "His hits are tailor-made for parties, but his music incorporates so many influences and subgenres. I think he'll have fans on their heels the entire performance, and of course, the entire lakefill will go wild when the horns for 'Shabba' sound off."
The trap lord is sure to kick off the afternoon with a bang, and is guaranteed to please the hip hop heads that have been eagerly awaiting a rapper in the lineup.
Mayfest has one major artist left to announce, and would like to remind Northwestern students to continue signing up for wristbands, as every student must register one to enter the festival.
