Black don't crack

Rebecca Black's newest music video is for her song "Person of Interest."

Rebecca Black returned to our 15 minute attention spans with the release of her third music video, “Person Of Interest,” early Tuesday night. Within 24 hours of the release, the YouTube video had over 250,000 views and more than 18,000 dislikes.

However, the young viral sensation continuously rises through the ashes of hatred after each of her catchy yet simplistic music videos. Just like in fashion, Black will always be in style. Or at least something to talk about.

In her new music video, there’s a crime scene on the dance floor. The offense? Somebody has impressed her enough to consider the possibility of love. The person of interest: the goober-looking boy playing arcade games with her.

Overall, the music video’s storyline is cute and simple, like anything about being 14 should be. The crime at a carnival symbolizes her sparking feelings. This metaphor is continued with a cop drawing a caricature instead of a sketch and a chase scene done at the go-kart track. And I like that.

Black eventually ends up mini-golfing with two of her friends. Unfortunately, they aren't the friends made famous by the “Friday" music video. But one does have braces and the motif of sweet, awkward adolescence never fails to emerge in Black's videos. And near the end of her music video, Black jumps on stage with who appear to be Fook Yu and Fook Mi from Austin Powers and a large Chinese dragon. It makes no sense whatsoever, but it is fun to watch.

By the end of the music video, she no longer needs the cop because she has found her person of interest, the boy from the arcade games. The two eventually prance off, probably do what pubescent freshmen do on dates: texting all day and enaging in super scandalous hand holding.

Since Black’s made a claim to fame with “Friday” she has been the poster child for Funny or Die’s April Fool’s joke Black Friday, appeared in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” music video and released her second music video, “My Moment,” an ode to her haters. While her music has definitely garnered a large hate base, Black continues to do what she enjoys.

“Person of Interest” may not be the best written thing on Earth, but it’s not supposed to be. It’s light-hearted, catchy and sung by a girl who’s just beginning high school. As much as haters want to bash on Black, the girl has guts to continue to produce music and videos. She is resilient and strong, and probably making more money than any of her haters. In the end, Black just don’t crack.
