Back in May, the world caught its first glimpse of Disney’s latest tour de force Beverly Hills Chihuahua, a film seemingly about singing Aztec chihuahuas. We here at NBN derided the trailer, labeling it the “worst Disney movie ever” before it even polluted our local cinemas.
Unfortunately for us, the kids of today don’t have the same nostalgia for Pocahontas as we do. They just want to see cute talking animals. As a result, Beverly Hills Chihuahuawon this weekend’s box office battle. Sign of the end times? Maybe, but I’d much rather spend time with Chihuahua than watch Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist again. I could have stayed home, browsed my album art on iTunes and played Arrested Development in the background and gotten the same experience.
So, since I loathed Nick and Norah and want to celebrate Chihuahua’s box office victory, here are some videos of “the real hot dog, yo hold the bun.” First, a collection of chihuahuas courtesy of the fine, overly cutesy folks at Ultra Kawaii.
Next up, a video of a super-tiny chihuahua. The clip features a weird mash-up of Radiohead’s “High and Dry” and Coldplay’s “The Scientist” that dominated my attention. But you should focus on the micro dog, it’s better.
Finally a short clip of a dog singing along to A-Ha’s only hit, “Take On Me.” A lot better than the Beverly Hills Chihuahua rap.
