Tonight’s vigil for the 32 victims killed Monday at Virginia Tech will include candles and brief speeches, but will mainly offer an open microphone to let students talk about the massacre.
Weinberg sophomore Nathan Zebrowski, who’s organizing the 8 p.m. vigil at the Rock, got the idea as soon as he heard the news. But he acted after noticing that at every dining hall he ate at, nearly every student was reading about the shooting.
“It could have been us,” Zebrowski said.
He e-mailed his friends Tuesday afternoon about the idea. After contacting the university they worked with Timothy Stevens, the university chaplain, to plan the event. Zebrowski, and many of the students helping out, is part of Northwestern Students for Life.
Although there have been other remembrances on campus, Zebrowski said he wanted Northwestern to not just remember the dead in small groups and individually, but “as a community come together.”
