The Green Cup is an inter-dormitory competition to conserve water and energy use. Residence halls and residential colleges are divided into two groups (dorms with and without dining halls) and compete within their group to see which dorm can conserve the greatest amount of energy and water per resident.
Baseline electricity (measured in kilowatt hours) and water use (measured in cubic feet) for each dorm will be compared to use during the competition – April 9 to April 23 (Earth Day). The dorm that conserves the most energy will win a Lou Malnati’s and Ben and Jerry’s party along with discounts to restaurants and “other surprises,” according to the SEED Green Cup website.
SEED, Students for Ecological and Environmental Development, is in charge of the Green Cup. In the past, SEED has brought speakers such as Jeff Corwin, Ralph Nader and Paul Krugman to campus.
