Tribune columnist says provost's letter won't end Lavine controversy
By

Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn wrote Tuesday that the controversy surrounding Dean Lavine is not over, despite a letter from Northwestern Provost Daniel Linzer on Friday that said that a committee appointed to investigate the matter found “no evidence to point to any likelihood that the quotes were fabricated.”

Zorn wrote it was “odd” that the investigative committee did not contact any of the students who could have given Dean Lavine the quote.

“It’s easier to claim that ‘no evidence’ exists when you haven’t looked for evidence,” he wrote.

Zorn also questioned whether Northwestern officials really expect the investigation to “restore staff and student confidence” in Dean Lavine.

“The simple questions are growing, not going away,” he wrote.
