NU's Helicon Literary Magazine held an open-mic Thursday night to celebrate the launch of its winter issue. Helicon, one of Northwestern’s oldest literary publications, features prose, poetry and art from students in its print magazine, which is released annually. The magazine accepts submissions from students in every school and major at Northwestern in an attempt to showcase the work of those who would not normally have a creative outlet.

In addition, it runs a website and Tumblr page that feature additional student works, alongside multimedia art and even video games. At the open-mic, student artists performed pieces that had been published in the Winter 2015 issue along with other essays, stories and slam poems. The event took place at the Dittmar Memorial Gallery and was attended by about 30 students.
