There was a lot going on in Northwestern sports this weekend. Find out what you missed here.
Men’s Soccer
With just one minute left in regulation, Northwestern midfielder Brandon Medina headed in an equalizer against No. 17 Indiana in the late game thriller that eventually ended in a two overtime 1-1 draw. The Wildcats are now 0-1-2 in conference play (4-1-4 overall), good for 7th in the Big 10 standings. Goalie Tyler Miller had eight saves during the game. This Sunday the ‘Cats take on Maryland at Lakeside Field, where they’ve been 4-0-1 this season.
Women’s Soccer
Northwestern fell 3-1 to Ohio State in Columbus this past Sunday. Freshman Michelle Manning scored the Wildcats’ only goal, her first collegiate score. The ‘Cats have now lost five straight, with Big 10 opponents averaging 2.5 goals a game against the young Northwestern team. The Wildcats return home to face Illinois this Sunday at Lakeside Field.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
Out of 222 original singles competitors, Northwestern men’s tennis’ Strong Kirchheimer, Konrad Zieba and Logan Staggs made it into the third round of the ITA All-America Championships in Tulsa this past weekend. Sophomore Sam Shropshire joined his fellow Wildcats in play today during the qualifying draw round of the tournament.
In Evanston, the women’s tennis team hosted the Wildcat Invitational this past weekend, with Brooke Rischbieth and Erin Larner making it to the fourth and fifths rounds, respectively, of their five-round singles tournaments. Alex Chatt made it to the championship round of the back-draw singles, and every doubles team made it past the first round of their brackets.
Field Hockey
The Wildcats are now tied atop the Big 10 standings after a dominant 3-0 win over No. 17 Indiana at Lakeside Field this past Sunday. The ‘Cats converted 33 percent of their shots on goal and more than doubled Indiana’s shot attempts. All three of Northwestern’s top three scorers had goals in the victory, and goalie Maddy Carpenter had three saves. The team will take on Iowa, who is tied for first in the Big 10, next Saturday.
