Weinberg junior Victor Shao will serve as the next ASG President, governing until spring 2013, after winning a runoff election Friday against SESP junior Kameron Dodge.

Brad Stewart, a Medill junior, will serve with Shao as ASG Executive Vice President.

Shao and Stewart almost won Wednesday’s initial ASG election, against Dodge and Weinberg junior Dan Tully. Although Shao won 42 percent of the vote, he failed to net a majority, necessitating Friday's runoff against the candidate with the second most votes. Dodge won 33 percent of the vote Wednesday.

“We’re going to mobilize as many people as we can,” Shao said on Wednesday when preparing for the runoff.

The Shao-Stewart campaign made good on its promise. On Thursday campaign representatives painted the Rock, and Shao and Stewart won the endorsements of newly-elected ASG Vice Presidents Alex Van Atta and Neil Mehta, of Student Life and Academics, respectively.

“Express Yourself” was the slogan the Shao-Stewart campaign chalked across campus as the race began. Although taking an initially outsider angle against ASG, Shao and Stewart eventually sought to differentiate themselves through their continuing experience in Senate. At a debate between candidates Monday night, Shao reminded audience members that in no other campaign were both the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates currently involved in ASG.

Self-declared pillars of the Shao-Stewart campaign involved lobbying for a new student center, creating different meal options for upperclassmen living off-campus, and creating “ExpressioNU,” a Reddit-like site where students “make suggestions for campus improvements.”
