Members of the group Students for Justice in Palestine painted the Rock Sunday night in time for May 14, the 64th anniversary of what the group considers "the beginning of the occupation of Palestine." The group paints the Rock on this date every year to commemorate what is known to Palestinians as "al-Nakba," or "the catastrophe."
"Most of us are not even Palestinian, which is a testament to the fact that this is not a national issue as much as it is a political issue and a human issue," said Weinberg junior Ala Salameh, treasurer of Students for Justice in Palestine. "We want to celebrate Palestinians as a people, and we want to acknowledge that there still is resistance in Palestine.
