At 6 p.m., the Northwestern Wildcats women’s lacrosse team will take on the Penn Quakers in the most anticipated rematch in women’s lacrosse.
At the end of the regular season, Penn defeated Northwestern, ending NU’s 36 game win-streak extending back through the beginning of last season. It was Northwestern’s only loss of the season.
Penn comes into this game with an identical record to Northwestern’s — 20-1 — and a lot of history of their own. This is the first time any athletic program at Penn has been to a national championship in anything other than fencing. Pretty pathetic, right?
The Quakers have gotten a lot of quality wins this season, and has gotten on a roll in the NCAA tournament. They beat highly seeded Boston University and the surprising Duke Blue Devils in the tournament.
Penn has a renowned defense. They shut down Northwestern’s offense the last time the two met, and you can bet that if the Wildcats are going to win this one, they are going to need to put up a lot of goals.
The Wildcats certainly had no problem scoring last game, when they put up 16 goals against Syracuse. They will need another high-scoring output from Hilary Bowen, who had six goals against the Orange, to win their fourth consecutive national championship.
