The Northwestern Lacrosse team is one win away from adding another impressive statistic to their already outstanding resume — a defense of the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament Championship.

After defeating Penn State 15-7 on Saturday here at Lakeside Field, avenging a near-loss earlier this season, the ‘Cats will play today at noon against Vanderbilt, who beat Johns Hopkins today in the other semifinal game.

If you’re interested in putting money on this game, you’ll probably want to bet on our Wildcats. Northwestern has the longest home win streak in NCAA women’s lacrosse history; 41 games and counting. Despite their tough loss to Penn, which ended a 36-game win streak, Northwestern remains the top team in the land.Vanderbilt is ranked No. 9, but lacks wins against tough teams. Northwestern is 5-1 against teams in the top 10, and Vanderbilt is only 1-2 against those top teams.

The first ALC tournament was held last year in Baltimore, when Northwestern defeated Johns Hopkins on their home field to win the competition.

If Northwestern wins, they will surely have the top seed heading into the national championships. The first round will likely be here on May 11.

If you can’t make it to the Lakefill tomorrow at noon, be sure to read NBN for pre-game, in-game, and post-game for live blogging and analysis.
