Students from Northwestern University in Qatar painted the Rock on Monday night to celebrate the campus's first graduation ceremony last Thursday and to welcome more Qatar students who will be visiting the Evanston campus in the next week.
"We know that this is a Northwestern tradition, and we wanted to show that we're part of it," said Qatar Medill sophomore Yara Darwish, who helped paint the Rock. "President [Morton] Schapiro has made it clear that we're all one University, not separate — and we don't want to be thought of as different or secondary."
