Members of the Northwestern community gathered Thursday night to share memories and honor the life of Alyssa Weaver, a Weinberg junior who died while studying abroad in London last Wednesday.

The candlelight vigil in front of the Rock was organized by Chi Omega, CCS, the Boxing Club and the Brady Scholars Program. Those who knew Weaver well addressed the crowd to reflect on the time they spent with her.

"I am very sad, but I am also very humbled and very grateful for all of you," said Holly Nwangwa, Weinberg senior and Chi Omega member, during the vigil.

A prayer for Weaver was recited in Hebrew and in English, followed by singing of the Chi Omega parting song "Shades." As the vigil drew to a close, those in attendance were invited to write condolences and memories on the Rock and in books intended for Weaver's family.

President Morton Schapiro concluded his statement to those gathered by reflecting on the significance of Weaver's life and passing.

"I think if we all learn as an institution and as individuals, then Alyssa's memory will truly be, in fact, a blessing," he said.
