"Mee-Ow's Anatomy" shows performance troupe on top of their craft

Mee-Ow prides itself on being equal parts improv, sketch comedy, and rock ’n’ roll. This year’s mainstage show, “Mee-Ow’s Anatomy,” was no exception.

Before the start of the actual show, the audience was entertained by the jazz stylings of Seduction Groove, led vocally by the talented and energetic Janelle Kroll, whose version of “Crazy in Love” was a big crowd pleaser.

The show opened with a medley of Disney song parodies, re-written with medical jargon keeping with the night’s theme. The troupe gave a hilarious mix of improv, sketch comedy and karaoke throughout the show, all of which left the audience roaring with laughter.

Mee-Ow took tried for social commentary in sketches dealing with such hot-button issues. In one sketch, a doctor is assuring a young girl that her parents won’t be informed of her abortion when the Ghostbusters burst into the room. Confused, they look for a ghost to no avail. “Something definitely died,” says one cast member. In response, another muses, “But was it ever really alive to begin with?” The combination of humorous commentary and improv made the show a success.

The highlight of the show was senior Jessica Lowe’s performance. She stole the scene every time she set foot on-stage, using her perky cuteness for shock-value as she held her own with the mostly male cast. Her expressive voices made her characters convincing, and her dedication to comedy showed throughout the night.

The entire cast of Mee-Ow did a fantastic job, and “Mee-Ow’s Anatomy” shone as an example of Northwestern performance groups at their best.
