You’ve probably heard the rumor by now: Famed Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco is coming to Northwestern for the annual A&O Fall Blowout. Today Allison Zuzelo, A&O’s director of concerts, confirmed that rumor but also revealed a secret that the organization has played close to its chest.
“A&O Blowout this year is going to be Lupe Fiasco and Matt & Kim,” Zuzelo said in an interview. “Last year was Snoop and Cudi, it was a really strong show but obviously it was kind of one note on genre. While hip-hop definitely does very well at Northwestern, there are a lot of people who like bands, who like kind of dance-y music, and we think with Matt & Kim we definitely addressed that this year.”
The third incarnation of A&O’s fall concert — previously headlined by John Legend and Snoop Dogg, respectively — will be taking place on Friday, Nov. 4 at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Transportation to and from the 7:30 p.m. show will be included in the price of the ticket, which is $10 for undergraduates.
“This concert has something for everybody,” said Vivek Sudarsen, A&O’s co-director of promotions. “It sort of has mass appeal in terms of musical taste, and that’s something that A&O tries to do with everyone of our shows. We try to make sure that nobody goes home without having something they enjoyed. People that love alternative music will get a lot out of Matt & Kim, and people who are into hip-hop will get a lot out of Lupe.”
Tickets will go on sale October 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Norris Box Office online for undergraduates and will cost $10. Tickets for graduate students will cost $15 and will go on sale at 10:30 a.m. on October 28. Students will be held to a four ticket limit. Free busing will be provided to Welsh-Ryan from Cahn Auditorium and SPAC and will begin at 6 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music begins at 7:30 p.m.
