Up-and-coming California rapper Kendrick Lamar has been added to the 2012 Dillo Day lineup. Lamar's performance will come after Cold War Kids and before Reel Big Fish, according to an earlier statment by Mayfest co-chair Janna Kaplan.
"We think that Lamar's style of West Coast hip-hop perfectly rounds out the mix of genres on this year's Dillo Day lineup," Mayfest co-director of promotions Vivek Sudarsan said in a statement. Sudarsan added that Mayfest feels "lucky to have booked Lamar at this point in his career when he's on the rise."
Mayfest used social media to make the Lamar announcement, advertising that it would unveil the fifth act after the Dillo Day organization page received 1,000 Likes.
Lamar's music has received both critical and popular acclaim. As one of the four members in the Black Hippy hip-hop collective, the 24-year-old has produced recordings that update the West Coast rap sound championed by artists like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre with more current hip-hop sensibilities.
